An interview with Seun Odukoya. Read our review of his book, My Little Girl here.
LE: Hello Seun, please tell us a bit about yourself.
Seun: Hi guys! Thank you for having me!
Ah – I was born and bred in Lagos, so I am Lagos by birth and Ogun by heritage. I’m a graduate of Educational Psychology (Guidance and Counselling) from University of Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State.
I live in Lagos – because something about the chaos calms me. Also, I’m something of an owl, so…
LE: What you do for a living? Is writing your full time job?
Seun: I write. That’s all I do. Of course, the capacity in which I do the writing is what differs – but that’s all I do. WRITE.
LE: When did you start writing and what prompted it?
Seun: Ah – you know the clichéd answer – all writers have been writing since they were born. I didn’t start that early, but some time in my teenage years. I started to write because I did a lot of reading, and sometimes I wouldn’t like the resolutions of stuff I’d read. So I’d create my own version. And then, it became a way to have conversations with myself because I was mostly a lonely child.
LE: Are you currently working on any book and if you are, what is it about?
Seun: I’m working on a number of projects, some of which I’m not allowed legally to talk about. But I’m personally working on two books, both short story collections. One is romance and the other is crime; an expansion of the world I created for Lebe. Hopefully, one of them will be out before the end of the year. Let’s see how that goes.
LE: Romance? Hmmm, we look forward to that. Lastly, what are your hobbies?
Seun: It depends on how/what I’m feeling. Read, see a movie, conversation, write, go to the beach, sit at a bus stop and watch life go by, cruise back and forth on the Third Mainland bridge in the early hours of the morning…
Depends on my feelings.
I just want to say – this is a pretty awesome birthday present. I’m sure you didn’t know this, but tomorrow (July 23) is my birthday!
THANK YOU. SO MUCH![i]
Happy birthday, Seun! Hope you had a good one…
